“Roger that,” Rimms replied as the monitor went blank.
Roberts’ mind was swirling. The situation needed to be contained as quickly and quietly as possible. If word of this got out to the general public there would be mass hysteria throughout the solar system.
Keying his personal encrypted communicator Roberts spoke, “Control. Put the station on high alert. All personnel below grade 12 should immediately go to their designated rad shelters.”
“Sir,” the control agent stammered, “our readings indicate there are no active flares and low solar activ—“
“Tau Prime Epsilon,” Roberts interjected.
“Yessir!”
Warning klaxons began sounding throughout the station.

“Jeff do we have video from Rimms’ team yet ?” asked Roberts.
“Not yet sir” said Jeff as he clicked away at his terminal.
“Good !” said Roberts as he leveled the gun at Jeff’s head.
Jeff turned around and his eyes widened .
“Wwwhat … wwwwhat …” Jeff stammered.
“Sorry kid, but I can’t let you see this” said Roberts as the back of Jeff’s head exploded on the terminal screen.
“I knew this day would come” thought Roberts “the return of Korrag.”
Roberts walked to the comm unit and pushed the button.
“Rimms do you read me ? Secure the site, I’m coming down.”

Arnold Rimms twisted the final seal on the shock armor and stepped into the shuttle.
“Ok team, we are going to Io and setting up a base. I know almost none of you have seen battle, but I have. Listen to me and do exactly what I say.”
He looked over the soldiers. All but two were fresh from training, sent to the quiet uneventful station. Out of all of them, only he’d been in the war.
“Protecting the scientists is priority one. Be ready to evac everyone at a moments notice.”
Arnold wouldn’t let his past failure repeat itself.

“No.” Bob Roberts said in a whisper. “It can’t be.”
“What?” Jeff asked turning from the screen to Bob. “Who is that?”
“My father, Major James Roberts.” Bob said as he stared. “He was lost during the Delta 3 probe incident 20 years ago.”
“Oh.” Jeff turned back to the screen.
“He’s… it’s speaking.” Bob said. “Does this probe have audio?”
“Yes.” Jeff reached down an typed a quick command into the terminal.
“Kor-rag comes!” The voice of Major Roberts said through the speaker. Then one of the thing’s tentacles grabbed the probe and the speaker and screen went dead.

Roberts stared at the monitor and tried to ignore the smug satisfaction plastered across Jeff’s face.
Dark creatures swarmed out of a new crater on Io. The moon’s surface was covered, undulating like ripples on an oily pond.
“What…” Roberts croaked. Then he punched the comm and barked, “Fergus? What assets have we got–”
A burst of static interrupted him—but that wasn’t why Roberts stopped.
On the black-and-white screen in front of him, even through the distortion of Jupiter’s intensely powerful EMF, he plainly saw a gelatinous, tentacled nightmare staring back at him with his father’s face.
