Well folks, all good things must come to an end, and it is time to end Saturday Night in the Snark Cave. It has been dying for a while. The last several weeks, it has just been Hugh and I, not to mention all the technical issues and lack of “SyFy Original” films of late. And Hugh and I have other projects we would rather work on. So I am cancelling it. It was fun, and my heart felt thanks to those who have come out to help us “make these films better”; but it is done.

Thanks again for all your support.

Saturday Night in the Snark Cave live 7/17/2010 at 7:45 PM CT – Goblin

Let’s face facts, the SyFy Channel makes a lot of bad movies, but they tend to excel at films about monsters. Movies like Sea Beast, Wyvern, and Sabertooth, although silly at points, were fun to watch. And hopefully, this week will be no different as SyFy premier’s Goblin. Apparently, the creature – the goblin, eats babies, so this film should involved family trying to save the infants from the CGI menace. It has not one I have heard of before in it, unlike the other films I mention about which stared the likes Camille Sullivan, Corin Nemec, David Keith, John Rhys-Davies, Vanessa Angel, and Don S. Davis; but I still hold out hope that it being a monster film (and not having been made by The Asylum) will save it from the scrap heap of SyFy Original failures.

In this world that we live in, there is a great desire to combine things in hopes that the combination of the two makes things is better that either one alone. For example Peanut Butter and Chocolate (Reeses Peanut Butter Cups), Rum and Coke (Cuba Libre), and Megashark vs. Giant Octopus. And this week on SyFy Channel and here in the Snark Cave, that great tradition continues with Dincroc vs. Supergator. This is not the first team up of the giant monster kind presented by the SyFy Channel. They have given us Boa vs Python and the afore mentioned Megashark vs. Giant Octopus to name two, but this one is special. Special for three reasons. This one does not have DebroahGibson in it. It is one of David Carradine‘s last films. And, assuming everything goes right, Hugh and Taylor will be live physically together in the Snark Cave for it’s screening.

Now I am pretty sure that the SyFy Channel originally had a different movie schedule for June 19th, but since I didn’t make a note of it anywhere I can’t tell you want it was. (And I could be wrong.) But originally planned or not, this week we have The Seamstress, a supernatural horror flick with at least a small appearance by the legendary Lance Henriksen. Beyond that I know very little about this film, but it is being premiered on Saturday night on SyFy so how good can it be? Well the SyFy Channel and The Asylum are at it again, and because of it Edgar Rice Borroughs is rolling over in his grave. Actually, I hope that he has burst forth as a supernatural force of vengeance with a can of gasoline and a portable flight of stair, but I suspect that the people at The Asylum will get off scott-free yet again. If you are wondering the movie this week is The Asylum‘s version of Edgar Rice Borroughs’ A Princess of Mars called Princess of Mars. A Princess of Mars was the first in Borroughs’ epic planet and sword series staring John Carter and set on Barsoom (Mars). Let us hope that Princess of Mars is not another epic fail from The Asylum like The Land That Time Forgot, Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus, and AVH (Alien vs. Hunter); but in there last adaptation of a Borroughs’ story it was clear that had not bothered to actually read the novel and based on what I have seen so far that is true in this case as well.

If you are wondering why I am spewing so much venom about this film in particular it is because I grew up with Borroughs’ stories and the John Carter stories were among my very favorites. And, of course, The Asylum maybe the worst film company in existence today. For the love off all that is good and right, Tars Tarkas a Thark (green martians) should be a giant with four arms not a short guy in bad mask. And don’t get me started about Antonio Sabata Jr playing John Carter, a Civil War era Virginian, or Tracy Lords playing Deja Thoris, the Princess of Mars.

The SyFy Channel has a long standing tradition of making fantasy (as in sword and sorcery) films that are either pretty good or absolute crap. (Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God is an example of one of SyFy‘s good fantasy films. Dark Relic and Cyclops are examples of bad ones.) There is rarely anything in between. This week they are premiering another sword and sorcery piece one called Witchville. From the trailers, this one looks like it falls in the later catagory, but we here at Saturday Night in the Snark Cave are eternal optimists. We hope that the film will be better than expected, and we know that with your help we can make this film better. Most of us have seen it and it two sequels, but this week the master of the SyFy Channel have seem fit to show the classic sexy emo vampires versus bad ass werewolves flick Underworld on Saturday night. Underworld is a pretty good film, although the writing could have been better, and worth checking out if you are in to what passes from vampires these days and/or werewolves. Nothing says SyFy Saturday Night like a movie about a cryptid, and this week we have another in that long tradition, Mongolian Death Worm. Yes, a film about giant worms living in Mongolia starring Sean Patrick Flanery of Boondock Saints fame. To be fair, the SyFy Channel does do a pretty good job with films about worms and snakes and the CGI in the commercials looks pretty good, so this might actually have some redeeming qualities. And if they follow the legend, there will be a lot of potential for some outrageous gory monster action. The Hitcher make in 1986 is still one of the scariest film ever made, and, in my humble opinion, it was the greatest performance of Rutger Hauer career. Unfortunately, in 2007 The Hitcher was remade with Sean Bean starring in the lead role of John Ryder. The same role played by Rutger Hauer in 1986. First, I am going to say, this film did not need to be remade. In fact, I am going to say it again. This film did not need to be remade. I would also like to note that I am a fan of Sean Bean. I think that he was great in Silent Hill, National Treasure, and Equilibrium; but I just don’t think he will be able to top Hauer’s portrayal of John Ryder. We will see because our friends at The SyFy Channel have decided to show the 2007 version of The Hitcher this week on Saturday night. And you know what that means … it means that it will be this weeks feature on Saturday Night in the Snark Cave. So come out and help us make this film better at 7:45 PM CT on ustream.tv. This week we leave Eragon in the dust, as we head for more coastal climes in order to experiences the horror of Mega Piranha. Normally, we would have high hopes for a monster films with giant fish, but this film was made by our arch enemy’s The Asylum. The people who have brought use the possibly worst film ever made AVH: Alien vs Hunter as well as Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus. (Our trailer for the Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus was better than the actually movie, I would like to note.) And Mega Piranha starts Debbie Gibson‘s rival Tiffany. Let us hope that the combination of Tiffany, Barry Williams, and Paul Logan can save this film from the slockery for which The Asylum is known. Sadly, after the horror of Transmorphers: The Fall Of Man, we are returning again to The Asylum for the SyFy Channel premier of The Land That Time Forgot. No, I am not talking about the 1975 classic, based on the novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, directed by Kevin Conner and starring Doug McClure. I am talking about the 2009 Asylum production directed by and starring… Steady… Wait for it… C. Thomas Howell. Now to be fair the story has everything in it to make a great film: Dinosaurs, NAZIs, a submarine, the Arctic, and cave women; but that hasn’t stopped The Asylum in the past. Take for example H.G. Well’s War of the Worlds and War of the Worlds 2: The Next Wave. The later was also directed by C. Thomas Howell and both starred him.

So come on out and help us make this film better or at least keep us company while we suffer through another example of why The Asylum should not be allowed to make movies. We’ll save a spot of the virtual couch for you.

Well this week Hugh and Taylor go back to The Asylum for the Transmorphers: The Fall Of Man starring the rapidly descending career of Bruce Boxleitner. (I actually like Bruce but he has made some real crap recently.) Yes this week the SyFy Channel has choosen The Asylum’s rip off of, er – I mean tribute to, Micheal Bay’s epic FAIL Transformers and Transformers: The Rise of the Fallen. Strangely, the SyFy Channel did not choose to air Transmorphers before showing it’s sequel. But considering The Asylum did give us AVH: Alien vs. Hunter, the worst film ever shown on the SyFy Channel, is possible that Transmorphers did not live up to their pitifully lower standards?

Well it is time once again to celebrate SFNBC, er – I mean, SYFY’s most “dangerous” night of television. This weeks film is a two part mini-series titled Category 6: Day of Destruction which airs at 7:00 PM CT on the SyFy Channel. This week we have a double treat here in the Snark Cave. There is a new movie on the SCIFI Channel on both Saturday night and Sunday Night. Saturday night (3/7/2009) we have the horror epic See No Evil with Kane from the ECW. Sunday (3/8/2009) we have War Wolves. I think the name says in all in that case.

It is time again to gather in the Snark Cave around the warm glow of the SCIFI Channel’s most disappointing, I mean dangerous, night of television. This weeks feature is Anacondas: Trail of Blood which is the fourth movie in the Anaconda series and features John Rhys-Davies. John Rhys-Davies happens to be a favorite actor of mine so this flim may be better than expected.

Saturday Night in the Snark Cave – Series Premier

For those wondering the Pilot episode of Saturday Night in the Snark Cave was a complete success. According to ustream.tv I had 14 people join me at some point or other for Planet Raptor. And reports from those in the chat room at the end of the film were very positive. Unfortunately, I forgot to hit the record button so if you DVRed the film and missed the broadcast you can not go back and listen as you watch Planet Raptor. I will be recording the shows on ustream.tv in the future.

All that being said, I am please to announce the series premier of Saturday Night in the Snark Cave on Saturday January 31st at 7:45 PM CT. So tune and in to hear me, and possibly a cohost, riff the latest offering from the SCIFI Channel‘s Most Disappointment, I mean, Dangerous Night of Televsion. The film this week happens to be Wyvern.

Saturday Night in the Snark Cave – Pilot Episode

Okay folks, the first and only test run of Saturday Night in the Snark Cave will be tonight (1/25/2009) at 8:00 PM CT. I will actually start at about 7:45 PM CT to get everything setup and running. The film will be Planet Raptor which is this weeks Sunday night SCIFI Channel movie premere.

This will either be a lot of fun or a complete train wreck so come check it out the fun.
