Many of you know of Nick Reamer and his battle with cancer from my
show and the interview I did with Nick. But you may not know thew
situation has gotten worse and that the family is almost completely

for cash to continue treatment. I am planning to support them as much
as I can, and I am asking that any one out there who has the means to

All,
For all of you following Nick’s progress on CaringBridge, you know about the paralysis he has in both legs. If you haven’t been checking CaringBridge lately, last Monday (1/4) Nick started having tingling in both his legs. By Thursday he could not move either leg. Right now he and Jill are at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas. We have enough benefit money for them to stay until Saturday, but it looks like Nick will be admitted this weekend for either surgery or radiation treatments to remove/shrink the tumors pressing on his spinal cord causing the paralysis.

I have emptied our 401K, depleted our personal saving account, cleaned out the kids college fund, sold the family car, and have no where else to turn. If you can make a donation, it will help us more than you can imagine.

I am still planning to do attend Horrorfest 4 and give you the blow by blow account of my experience (as well as a written review of the event and films) and I am planning to attend and record stuff at a couple of cons (including CONvergence 2010.) So stay subscribe to the feeds for some extra snarky content.

So for those who are wondering here are my major goals for 2010 (pronounced twenty ten) in list form:

• Successfully complete The Yard Gnome Fiction Writer’s Workshop
• Write, produce, and publish at least one Adventures of The Snarky Avenger audio drama serial
• Write and publish a webcomic for at least 6 months (this is dependent on the artist as well)
• Spend more time with my wife
• Get more physically fit
• Have more fun! (This last one is a little hard to measure but that’s okay and so far a few opportunities have presented themselves.)

So that’s the plan more or less folks. I am keeping the list small and the goals challenging and fun. To all of you setting goals or who have big plans for this year I wish you all the luck in the universe and I pray that you will succeed beyond your wildest dream. I know I plan too.

WAR CAKE

1 lb. raisins
2 c. boiling water
1 tbsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. cold water
4 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. walnuts, chopped

Simmer the raisins in the boiling water for 15 minutes. Mix in the rest of the ingredients. Bake it for about 1 hour in a tube pan (bundt cake pan) at 325 degrees or until well browned.
