My weekend was spend catching up on work a bit, playing SWTOR (I started a Sith (Inquisitor) Sorcerer, Erreek who is now 12th; and I got my Jedi Sentinel, Tsnar’kii, to level 23), did some shopping with the wife, and I recorded, edited, and published an interview with Brent Michael Kelley. Brent is the author of Chuggie and the Desecration of Stagwater

Today will be spent getting SCM-Manager setup for the pilot of Mercurial I am working. As well as snow shoveling.

Today will be a busy day. We are getting our first significant snow fall of the year today. Which means there will be snow shoveling. I am still working on getting my SCM-Manager server working. And tonight I am recording an interview Brent Micheal Kelly, author of Chuggie and the Desecration of Stagwater.

Brent did do a chat on Twitter last night that I missed because I got caught up in playing SWTOR. My Jedi Sentinel, Tsnar’kii, is now 18th level and has her ship. She is finally done with Coruscant, at least for now.

You may have noticed that all my sites were down yesterday as part of the SOPA/PIPA protests. Don’t get me wrong, I am no fan of online piracy, but giving government unlimited power to take down sites without “due process” is a bad idea. What is to prevent it from being used to censor ideas those in control of the executive branch deemed “dangerous”. Absolutely nothing. This legislation would do little to curb piracy, but it would do a lot to put a damper on online business and free speech. (Here is some information on SOPA and it’s possible effects: http://www.businessinsurance.org/behind-sopa-what-it-means-for-business-and-innovation/.) So in the end, just say “no” to SOPA/PIPA.

Well that’s enough about SOPA/PIPA. As I said earlier I am still not feeling that great. I postponed my interview Brent Michael Kelley (author of Chuggie and the Desecration of Stagwater
) to tomorrow. But I believe he is doing a Twitter chat tonight starting at 8:00 PM CST.

Today I am working on setting up builds on Jenkins and SCM-Manager on Linux.

Tonight if I am feeling okay, I may play some SWTOR. If not I will go to bed early again. I do intend to check out Brent’s chat on Twitter as well.

Today, it is actually snowing in my part (or parts) of Minnesota. This made my drive in a lot long and more challenging. Although we really need to snow and I would love to see it snow all day and all week, I hope that it has blown over at least slackened up a bit by the time I drive home.

Today also bring more work on bring the Mercurial project to life here at work as well as setting a Jenkins (Jenkins is a build/CI server) master and slave arrangement for testing. And a new installment of The Tyrannical Terror of the Burger Tsar over at The Adventures of The Snarky Avenger (snarkyavengercomic.com).

Tonight, I will be meeting with Aaron Siddall, the artist for The Adventures of The Snarky Avenger, to work on the comic and another secret project.

Last night was spent catching up on The Middle, Suburgatory, and checking out the new Napoleon Dynamite cartoon. The later of which was rather funny. Yes, I enjoy The Middle and Suburgatory, but I don’t watch anything live so I am constantly catching up.

Yesterday, I played a little SWTOR mostly space battles and crafting on my two main characters, Snark’ii and Tsnar’kii. Went out to lunch and seeing a movie, Mission Impossible 27: Ghost Protocol, with my wife. And finishing my reading of the novel Chuggie and the Desecration of Stagwater
by Brent M. Kelly. (A review of said book will appear at snarkyavengercomic.com later this week following shortly by a podcast interview with the author.) This should have taken a lot less time to get through, it is a good book, but I have gotten out of the reading habit.

Today, I will be working on my roll out of a pilot of the Mercurial distributed version control system to my current employer. The pilot will be semi-exclusive to one of our two software development teams. The other will migrate in six months to a year. Today’s work will mostly be setting up servers and planning.

Tonight, I expect to spend some quality time with my Jedi Sentinel, Tsnar’kii (the “T” is silent, by the way), and reading. For those wondering my next read will be After the Cross
by Mike Lynch and Brandon Barr which will be followed by Hellbender
by Jason Jack Miller and then The Devil’s Mixtape
by Mary Borsellino. (These are all books I have been given to review. I will try and do podcast interviews with the authors as well.) I also have several audiobooks to listen to and review. I am working toward getting one review up a week.

Well folks, it has been a long time coming and now it is finally here, as of April 19th The Adventures of The Snarky Avenger web comic will return to the interwebs. Aaron (Aaron Siddall, the guy doing the awesome artwork) and I have spent the last year (more or less) re-tooling the comic and the site. Starting April 19th (tomorrow), you will be able to follow the adventures of The Snarky Avenger, Steve AKA The man with the Bionic Extension (no it is not what you’re thinking), and the beautiful Ninja Princess BruceAnn twice of week (Tuesday and Thrusdays) as they face off against Bugbears, The Easter Bunny, and other nefarious villains from around our world and galaxy. On a related note, Aaron and I will be attending Demicon 22 on April 29, 30, and May 1st in Des Moines, Iowa. I (Taylor) will be sitting the Podcasting 101, Pro Signing and Chat, RPG’s you might have missed, and Audio Books: Good – Bad – Ugly panels. Aaron will be sitting the Pro Signing and Chat and RPG’s you might have missed as well, and he will have some pieces of his awesome work in the Art show. I have to admit when I was first approached by Galaxy Press regarding reviewing of their audio books, I was a bit torn. I love stories of action and adventure from the pulp age, but I have read some of L. Ron Hubbard’s later work (Battlefield Earth and the Mission Earth series), and, well, I just wasn’t impressed. On the other hand the stories that Galaxy Press was offer me where from early in L. Ron Hubbard’s writing career and definitely in a more action/adventure vein. In the end I figured, if I didn’t like them then I would just say so. (I am all about giving honest reviews here.)

Fortunately for Galaxy Press and L. Ron Hubbard (and you), I really enjoyed The Head Hunters. The Head Hunters is a classic two-fisted pulp adventure story set in Polynesia. It centers around a man named Tom Christian. Christian is the adventure who is master of his own small sailing yacht. The story begins with Punjo Charlie, a local villain, menacing Christian’s first mate Hihi (a local islander). Punjo Charlie is trying to find a cache of gold discovered by Christian on the island’s interior and steal it. Christian and Hihi attempt to recover the gold before the rainy season hits and before Punjo Charlie finds it. But our heroes must also rescue a naive scientific expedition from the clutches of Punjo Charlie and his band of head hunters as well as recover the gold before it is too late.

As I said I really enjoyed The Head Hunters. Sure it was a bit dated as well as a little racist and sexist by today’s standards, but it was fun. A large part of what made it fun was the fact that it was produced with a full cast and audio effects and music (in the same style as books produced by GraphicAudio.) That really helped bring the story to life for me and upped the dramatic tension a bit. And the cast was great. The audio was clear even with the effects and music. The characters were well voiced. None of the accents were two thick. Every voice was unique. Quality of the audio performance over all was top notch.

Another big plus for me was that this audio books was only two hours long. I am a big fan of the short novel. I spend two hours a day driving and an hour at the gym listening to audio most days. Have a book I can complete in one days is nice sometimes.

If you enjoy tales of adventure in exotic locations with lots of action you should definitely check out The Head Hunters by L. Ron Hubbard. I give it 5 out of 5 snark bites.

It saddens me that it has come to this. In the past I was a fan of Dorchester’s line of horror books because they produced quality paperbacks, and they published many authors I know and love: Brian Keene, Mary SanGiovanni, Edward Lee, Gary Braunbeck, Bryan Smith, J.F. Gonzalez, Craig Spector, among many others.

Help me and many other’s fight the good fight. Please boycott of Dorchester Publishing.
